Addressing Matters Close To The Heart

Three overarching priorities that incorporate and consider both residents and traders alike

1- COMMUNITY SAFETY

  • Emphasis on action now, not later
  • Additional dedicated resource on the ground in community, enabled by a new joint crisis task force (Police / Council / Community) See below for specific initiatives**

2 – BAY STREET AS AN ACTIVITY CENTRE

  • A cohesive road map to reinvigorate Bay Street as a boulevard
  • A fresh approach to working with landlords

3 – SENSIBLE NEW DEVELOPMENT

  • Greater consideration for people who actually live in Port Melbourne today
  • More emphasis given to necessary transport and parking to ensure existing amenity is protected

** Near-term specifics regarding community safety

  1. Fund investment in modern CCTV across a wider territory.
  2. Hire on the ground in community eyes and ears (professional security on a temporary basis till police office resourcing addressed, to observe / capture surveillance) – to help stem the tide.
  3. Strengthen ‘move on’ laws.
  4. Community representatives join a new 3-way forum (Police / Council / Community).
  5. Identify how to place more police on the footpath everyday – today.
