Question: Why did our Council’s security costs increase by 59% in 2019?

Fact 1 – Our Council’s security costs went up from $1.275m per annum in 2018 to $2.022m per annum in 2019 – an increase of $747K per year (three quarters of a million dollars a year).
Fact 2 – The Council CEO’s detailed monthly report fails to fully account for the increase in security costs in 2019.
Fact 3 – Late 2022, CEO Peter Smith moved to become CEO of Darebin City Council.
Fact 4 – In June 2024 I spoke with the unfortunate male partner related to the alleged affair first reported in Council Watch publication in May 2024. The partner confirmed a core fact including who he feels ‘still needs to go’ (a remaining senior Officer at the City of Port Phillip Council)
Fact 5 – I wrote to the Mayor of Darebin Council on 9 July 2024 seeking a meeting.
Fact 6 – Mr Peter Smith, CEO of Darebin Council, tendered his resignation in ‘mid-July’ 2024 (this was announced on 19 August 2024).
Fact 7 – I first wrote to Premier Jacinta Allan on 31 July 2024.
Fact 8 – I have tabled circa 10 bona-fide submissions on the issue to:
-
- The Mayor of the City of Port Phillip Council
-
- The Mayor of the City of Darebin Council
-
- The State Monitors appointed to oversee Darebin Council
-
- Premier Jacinta Allan MP and Minister Melissa Horne MP
